Why For Heavens Sake ?

Waiting for the lights to change at a Junction ; to turn left .
It's Dark and raining .
About to move off - i thought i heard the sound of someone's voice
Glance in my NS mirror to see two pedal cyclists who had approached junction on my N/S , by the kerb .
No lights on cycles - dark colour / no reflective clothing .
If i had not heard the faint sound of their voices and glanced in my N'S mirror , i would have turned left and there would have been a collision , with the real chance or serious injury .
Why oh Why do some cyclists - pedal and motor , ride past on the N/S of vehicles by the kerb ( you see it all the time ) - not to mention the lack of lights and reflective clothing ?

I attend the Cambridge Folk Festival every year, and drive back to my hotel at night in utter fear of hitting any one of the hundreds of students who ride their bikes in dark clothing with no lights on.
By definition, these are some of the top academic brains in the country, but they are utterly lacking in common sense, or the realisation that a cyclist with no lights in dark clothing riding at night is invisible to car drivers.

I am sixty-three, and after a full day of interviewing musicians, and reviewing artists, I want a toilet and bath that only I have used, a bed with a duvet, and most essential of all - silence.
Camping falls down on all of those, so if that makes me a wuss, I am perfectly happy to live with it!!! LOL!
