Mikey, // I will try to use "lower socio-economic groups" next time this subject comes up, as it seems to be the PC way of describing the people most likely to still be smoking. //

Will you also apply that to people who eat unhealthily, become grossly overweight, and suffer heart problems and diabetes as a result? I don't smoke and I'm not in the least bit overweight - but boy! How I detest the pompous holier than thou!
Thanks for that Mikey, all they have to do now is send round an operative to stand over the smoker while they read the article, just to make sure it's not a waste of time, money and trees.

It has all the hallmarks of 'just say no'.

Naomi....I can always tell when I am winning an argument, as people like you resort to personal insults.

Play the ball, not the man !
Mikey, What personal insults? I've asked you a health related question. A fair comparison to smokers I'd say.
Question Author
Dougie.....and that is precisely what more and more people are doing now....saying no to tobacco, but less so in the hard-to-reach socio-economic groups.
I feel more and more like I'm communing with someone from a 'backward country' so I'll stop now.

I can always tell when I've won an argument ... mikey doesn't return to the thread and starts ignoring me.
Question Author
Dougie....What a good idea....I think I will stop now as well, as I have made my point.
///At work I delight in moving smokers from a no smking area especially if its pouring wet.///

And if they refused?
I stand and wait. And when they just go round the corner I move them again.

I'm backed up by the fact that there are 2 signs right where they are standing.
Tuvok.....do you think they could be teasing you and having a laugh at your expense?.... ;-)
Question Author
Gness...there has been quite a lot of "teasing" on here today !
ZM: "I doubt very much private companies would respond to a policy put in place by a the Govt. . It would have to be enforced by law. Maybe a law resulting from a policy but never a policy. " - companies respond to the law all the time, not up to them it'd be the law, like the law banning advertising etc.
Yes but policy isn’t law TTT and you seem to have simply reinforced my point.
A policy is a document that outlines what a government is going to do. A law is a system of rules passed by the government. Laws must be obeyed by all, including private citizens, groups and companies as well as public figures, organizations and institutions.
ok we're playing ZM semantics, I mean they should make law to force tobacco companies to pay for ads saying how bad their product is. Happy?
See what you can do when you try. Wasn’t so hard was it?
Question Author
Zacs....why are you being so childish over this issue ?
I don’t consider pointing out the difference between a policy and law to be childish.
you are being a *** mate and you know it.
