Cold storage best for carrots I've found so in the fridge. Also did you know if carrots do go a little soft, you cut the top and bottom off pop them into container of water and store in fridge. Revives them and back to normal in no time. I have done that many times.

I have done that in the past, topped and tailed them, and put them in cold water, but some have gone quite manky, which was a surprise.
Oh dear Emmie, never had that happen maybe they were a little bit manky before you pop some in. They should only be soft and bendy lol. However as I say mine have always been able to be used after one to three days.
Question Author
perhaps its because i didn't take them out of the plastic bag, don't know, but will shove them in some cold water and then they will look fresh as a daisy, or carrot. lol
Oh I see Emmie. IMO carrots or any other veg shouldn't be stored especially in fridge in plastic bag. Always empty them into veg drawer or bottom of fridge as they don't last as long in plastic bags. Hope that helps.
Question Author
will do.
I store all veg in the fridge.
You can get some green plastic bags from Lakeland. They ( I may be remembering wrong here ) are called "japanese stone-powder" or something like that, and they keep carrots fresh for ages - sometimes even weeks. They are not cheap, but can be washed and reused for years. I also use them for lettuce and various types of fruit
Question Author
i mostly store veg in the fridge, but had run out of room.
emmie, why not but frozen?
Question Author
i could do, but no room in the freezer, its full at the moment, besides i quite like unfrozen produce.
Fair enough emmie. I don't have a lot of time so but frozen.
Question Author
i can understand that, i have topped and tailed the bad ones, peeled them and stuck them in bowl of cold water where they will keep for a couple of days. as long as you change the water they may keep for up to a week.
Besides peas and sweetcorn I can't stand frozen veg.

My carrots go straight into the fridge still in the bag. They last ages.
Well of course you can't beat fresh emmie, Christmas meal will be fresh everything. I have a freezer load of sliced carrots, Asda order due between 1.00 & 2.00pm .. left them off the list this tie I have so many.
