I am going in for a very serious operation and i have a fear that if i died that any confirmation of brain or heart inactivity is correct.

Does any one know if one can instruct the surgeon/doctor to cut my throat or sever an artery after confirmation of death.

Maybe i should add i live in the U.K.

many thanks for any replys.

I have a fear of being buried alive as well, it scares the sh1t out of me!! My family have been told that when I die that I want my aorta cut, just to make sure I'm gone. I'm sure if you tell the docs your fear that they will reassure you and give you the advice you need. Good luck with your operation.
Please be reassured, the modern checks to establish brain death leave no room at all for error, and have to be verified by at least two seperate doctors. When they say your gone, your gone!
You do not need to worry about this type of thing nowadays. It may have been a problem in the 'olden days' when medical procedures were poor and bodies were buried very quickly, but the processes used to determine death today are very high tech and embalming would also ensure you are not buried alive.

You don't need to cut someone's throat to ensure they are dead. A simple incision on the finger would determine if there was blood flow from a pumping heart. You wouldn't want to add manslaughter to your family's grieving, would you?

If you donated your organs for transplant or your body to medical research, there would be even less chance of this happening.
well considering when a person is embalmed all the blood is drained out of the body i think the chances of being buried alive are pretty much non exisitent these days
Although being buried alive is virtually impossible nowadays, I do understand your fear and you certainly should tell your doctor about your fears. It is beneficial to your well-being during your op to be as stress free as possible beforehand.

Your fears are not uncommon and any doctor worth her/his salts will have someone speak with you to try and put your mind at ease. Fortunately, we now live in an age when mental health is recognised to be as important as physical health. Good luck with your operation, and we will all be looking forward to hear from you after.

I appreciate the answers,i should add that i am jewish(although i dont believe in religion)and i think they bury you withen 24 hours which sounds scary.

I`m going in this week for removal of a tumor on my kidney and i think the whole kidney is going,******** myself as i have very young family, but i hope to post when i get out.

Good luck m8...not religious myself but i'm hypothetically praying for you !!!
mrchips - you say you are not religious, but please ask for Angelic protection around you before you go in for your op. I ask for it every day around myself, my house, car, children et al. Once you bring this energy into your life, you will find that fears of this nature diminish. I will not offer you good luck, because it is not necessary, but I will wish you a speedy recovery. Bright blessings - Amara xx
Keep a cyanide pill under your tongue ...just in case
