The clue is- Fear not, it paid extravagantly! (11)

I have reasoned that the answer is Trepidation which fits the definition- fear. I also assumed that 'not it paid ' was 'extravagant' (ie an anagram) of the answer but It leaves me with Re to find from the clue. My only other thought was extravagant meaning Outre ( OUT..RE) which is tenuous. Any suggestions?

I hope that is the problem because otherwise I cant see a way of fitting the answer to the clue. Thanks GEO 0939. K
Hi K,
How about INTREPIDITY.
Fear not.......Intrepid + it , but I can't figure out the Y.
