Foot Pain
9 Answers
I woke up on Monday morning with such bad pain in my left foot that I could hardly walk and nearly had to go sick from work. Managed to take enough pain killers to dull it a bit and carried on. The only connection that I can think of is that the day before I was driving in stop start traffic for hours after a series of accidents ( 3 3/4 hour journey which took nearly 6 hours) The foot was constantly on and off the clutch. It still hurts like hell. It's Ok if I rest it but as soon as I get out and about, the pain soon comes back. It's mainly in the cuboid area and I don't think it is plantar fasciitis as there is no heel pain. Could it be a stress fracture?

Yes it could be a stress fracture.... .100 to 1 on my bettings. The strong favourite here is a stress injury to the cuboid bone of the foot OR indeed partial subluxation. (Google cuboid Syndrome) Rest, ibuprofen and off work for at least a week , then reassess the situation.

Thanks sqad. I have had a few pains in the area forward of that area for a while and wondered if I was on the way to developing Morton's neuroma. They pains were not too much of a problem but this is really bad and a bit limiting as I can't do the things I want to do. It does seem to be cuboid related. I was just wondering if it was worth going to the doctor or a podiatrist. I`m going to rub some ipuprofen gel into it later and sit down with my foot in one of those gel wraps from the freezer that you use to keep wine bottles cold (whilst having a glass of red wine for medicinal purposes)
Morton's metatarsalgia is indeed another thought 237, I would say...50 to1 ;-) as it usually affects BETWEEN the toes and you mentioned, the foot, the cuboid area, so my money still goes on my original choice........Cuboid Syndrome.
Yes,you could opt for either a GP or a Podiatrist, but i would give it until next weekend, to settle.

I've had 3 years of it! Having imbibed of the grape too freely I fell asleep on a sofa with (also) my left foot trapped between the seat squab - so I turned over and my foot didn't, and yet I slept on. When I awoke I couldn't stand for the pain, but had to drive soon after 600 miles to Germany, which didn't exactly help.
The specialist I was referred to said he didn't want to operate, so I had special shoe inserts made, (which I believe f***** -up my knees!) I now wear boots to give ankle support with over the counter inserts for plantar fasciitis, I sleep with a plastic and velcro splint to hold it firm when sleeping and drive an automatic car with self-made wooden wedge under my left foot to keep it in a comfortable position.
In my case, it is best when the foot has weight on it, if it dangles it sets off the pain badly.
Perhaps I need see someone else?

sqad; I had the MRI and an X-ray.
There's even another story attached to the scan; after I had it, on returning to the underground car park I put my ticket in the machine to see how much I needed to pay and nothing happened, tried another machine - just the same, embarrassed and forlorn, I used the emergency telephone and 10 minutes later a man appeared, tried to do the same without results, puzzled, he used his key to open the barrier and he let me drive out without paying. It was only when driving home I realised what had happened, I had the ticket in my trouser pocket during the scan and the magnetic info had been wiped clean!
There's a moral in there somewhere.

Follow up for Sqad - the pain has just about subsided in the cuboid area - took some time though. Luckily, I haven't been working. The podiatrist looked at the other problem that I have had on and off for a while (near the toes) and he thinks I have metatarsal bursitis which makes sense. He has given me some ultrasound treatment and made a met pad which he has strapped to my foot to take the strain of the area. Should take a few weeks to improve and I am to go back if it doesn't.
Thanks to this thread (Sqad really) I have discovered my problem actually has a name and I'm not suffering alone.
I have found this interesting site, packed with information some on specific exercises, what do you think Sqad?
