first year I've grown carrots and I've grown Early scarlet horn in a container. They are shortish fattish ones. Now, I've pulled and eaten a few, delicious! Do I just leave them in the ground and pull them up as I need them or will they go woody like radishes?

If you can keep the ground moist I'd leave them in, unless you can keep a few spare ones in the salad container in your fridge. But in the heat they may go woody so best to check on them on a regular basis. You can't really leave them in through the winter though.
Just to follow on from Wendy, baby Carrots are wunderbar, so you could dig a couple up and see.
