We exchange presents between ourselves and send to relatives. this Year the exchange will wait 'til New Year as Tash's Sister is arriving for a few days on 29th and over new Year, which will be nice, hopefully Mrs B will be back from Norfolk by then.
We always enjoy it.

My approach has been the same since it all got really serious - if it's going to start three months early, it should last for a week, to make it worth the build-up. If it's going to last a day, it should start one week before.
Sadly, what we have is the three month build-up for one day.
That said, I loathed Christmas as a child - just waiting for the row between by parents to kick off.
As an adult, I have had amazing Christmases with my family I have now, and really do my best to get into the spirit, but I have to say that January 2 is one of my best days - everything back to normal again, how I like it.

Fluff a few years ago I spent Christmas on my own, jim jams, prosecco and fajitas for dinner, it was fab.
I was worried that I was going to have to barricade the front door as none of my neighbours believed I was happy to spend the day alone and I was worried they were going to drags me to their homes and subject me to the evilness of turkey and cranberry sauce.

We have lovely family time at Christmas and it is always special. I think it helps that as a family we all genuinely like each other and just get on really well. There is never an tension and I have some wonderful Christmas memories. We dont go overboard though.
I ignore most of the hype tho and just dip in and out when it suits. As for it getting out of hand, no I dont think so. Christmas is a personal thing in my view and people should be able to do as little or as much as they like.

The thought of spending Christmas Day with somebody else's pished Great-Aunt Beryl who's been sneaking the sherry and another families traditions brings me out in hives.
I had a fantastic day, I particularly didn't want to leave the house as I had no way of knowing when Mr Cake may have been able to call.
