I have O?D, M?S?E?, and I can’t think past OLD MASTER - MA in OLDSTER,
but it has to be plural, surely?

Old master looks correct. Maybe setter's error with the 's'
Looking at this again I think that the setter has made an error with the letter count,Should be (3,7).That would allow for Old Masters as there are two plurals in the clue.

Thanks, Danny - my thoughts entirely. Maybe Myrtilus (the setter of this one) had been out was on the, er, myrrh.
27ac) also reads: Valliant, outspoken critic of Emma (8), and is, I assume, KNIGHTLEY; presumably it should have been "Valiant"?
But what the heck - it is Christmas...

I meant, the answer to 27ac) is, of course, KNIGHTLY.
