If You Found A Gift Card On The Floor

ans didnt keep it and spend it, what would you do with it if you were no-where near the shop it was for?
I ask because my husband lost 3 gift cards (presumably dropped out of his pocket) today and i'm just wndering what i could possibly do to help return them - the shops concerned seem tp adopt an attitude of "can't do anything"

If hubby still has the receipts, then maybe the shops could replace them, although I somehow doubt it....
a voucher is, after all, just cash in another form.

I would drop them off at a police station but that may not be as easy as it used to be. If I was in a mall I would use the lost and found....if the place was local to me then I would post on the local facebook page. The shops of course have got no way of tracing the cards unless there is some kind of registration system in place.

Amazon replace lost gift cards - they can see they haven't been used. I don't know about shops... Do you mean if you found some, bednobs?

Mikey is correct. I was going to say that it is just like cash. Not the shop's problem. Think of it this way: suppose you drew some money out of an ATM and then lost it, would the bank replace it?

Many gift cards these days are of the type where they don't become valid until they've been swiped at the sales till and then can have credit added or removed from them in further till transactions.

So if I found some gift cards lying on the ground I'd probably assume that they were either
(a) used cards, where all the credit on them had already been spent ; or
(b) unvalidated (and therefore worthless) cards, nicked from the shop display by some kids, who'd just tossed them aside when they realised they were of no use to them.

Therefore it's likely that I'd just leave them where they were or pick them up and throw them in a bin.(i.e. I'd assume that they were worthless).

thanks for all your help. We were a long way away from home and didnt notice their loss till we were home. They were the reloadable type, meaning they we already activated. i had just transferred a substantial amount money on to them for xmas shopping. Grrr.
