People with husky voices on tv programmes and adverts - what makes their voices like that? i would be worried they had something wrong with them. There is one now on A Place In The Sun, a Scottish accent but very husky. They also seem to be used in lot of adverts, do people think it is attractive - if so I am missing something.
The guy who I think of as my son (long story) has always had a rather husky voice, even when he was a very young child. It's probably just due to natural variations in the shape of people's larynxes (unless, as O_G suggests, something has damaged their larynxes later in life).
Husky/croaky voices don't seem to have harmed the careers of people like Rod Stewart and Jimmy Nail.
If you're looking for a husky voice, check out Ralph Ineson ('Finchy in the Office) who does the voiceover on Salvage Hunters - on every night at 8pm on Quest (Freeview 37). Must be on about 30 Capstan Full Strength a day!
I love husky voices, Lankeela....though I do know some can be a result of smoking....
Psybbs had a beautiful, husky voice....very sexy....
I'm influenced by voices and one I really can't bear is Josh Widdecombe......I have to turn him off or stick my fingers in my ears when I watch The Last Leg....x
Agree about Josh Widdecombe, gness. And that continuity announcer with the weird deep voice on Radio 4 is Neil Nunes - how on earth he got that job on the UK's premier speech channel is a mystery.
