RPC DOOM VIRUS

Every time I switch on my laptop, a message box appears with the heading 'Internet Explorer' and 'RPC Doom virus found, click on ok to delete virus from computer'. I was bit suspicious because I have upto date virus software, and this is not the normal way that a virus message appears on my laptop (I have had several virus').I clicked on the cancel button and was expecting to see my normal homepage appear, but instead I get some dodgy website.Does anyone know what would happen if I clicked on the ok button instead.Also. how do I get my homepage back?I am also all of a sudden getting stacks of pop ups.even though I have a popup stopper installed.I am getting so fed up with it all I feel like doing a system restore,but It has taken me ages to build up all of the stuff on my pc,and would only do this as a last resort.Please, can anyone help.

You have some spyware on your machine google for spybot search and destroy which should remove it. also get cwshredder from http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html as I have found this useful for dealing with browser hijacks.
