I once worked behind the bar at a Hotel ballroom that was being used for a Freemasons lunch. After the lunch and the speeches they told me ''We are having the private part of our meeting now so you have to leave the room. ''
The landlord told me to just move to the service area behind the bar so I was out of sight but could still come back if someone wanted a drink. I recognized many of those present at the lunch including our local MP and senior police officers as well as local council members.
I could hear every thing that was going on, they really do sing silly songs about each other praising their achievements and each verse ending with the refrain '' For He's a good and an honorable mason''
I was having to bite my lip not to laugh and give the game away.
Got bought a lot of free drinks by those who knew me did not want me to tell anyone I had seen them there.
lindapalmara. Yes one of the Mason knew me and knew that I knew his entire family including of course his wife. He bought me lot's of drinks but asked
'' My wife does not know I'm a Mason, please do not tell her''
I was happy to promise and kept to it.
I think that the police should be banned for joining secret clubs. I remember in the 70s my boss got done for drunk driving and there was an Inspector with the Constable who breathaliased him. My boss gave the Inspector the funny handshake and was let off. He told me quite boastfully afterwards.
Nearly all male magistrates / Judges are Masons as well , a defendant who is also a Mason will use a particular phase or signal to indicate that to the bench. Unless of course he has already dropped a hint at the Masonic Lodge that he will be up in court on a particular day.
All done very subtly but it happens and of course the result will be as expected.
Giving a sign and using special words did not help Frederick Seddon back in 1913 when he protested his innocence to the judge who was a high-ranking mason. The judge sentenced him to death and he was hanged.
^ true.
It is in cases where the Judge/Magistrate has a deal discretion about the sentence that being a Mason pays. A Mason stands a much better chance of a fine, community service or a suspended than a non Mason in the same situation.
Also if a Mason does get sent to jail, the governor and assistant are virtually certain to be Mason's as well assuming they are male. Once again a Mason will have an easier time in jail, nicer cell, better prison job, than a non Mason. In the open jail I worked in all the best jobs, prison librarian, prison laundry supervisor, prison minibus driver (yes really!) all went to Masons.
Chap driving home gets breathalysed and is over the limit. He tells the constable he's been to the lodge. Constable decides to consult the sergeant, who in turn decides to consult the inspector. Inspector offers to drive the man home. On the way he asks him which lodge he's been to. The man replies, "Yate's Wine Lodge".
