Can anyone tel me where I can buy an Epson XP 312 Printer ? My searches almost invariably end up showing where I can obtain the ink cartridges but am finding no success with obtaining a printer ... perhaps the model is obsolete ? Anyway would appreciate any info please.

Most printers are usually on the market for between 6 and 18 months before they're replaced by newer models (which almost always use different inks). So it's not unusual to find that the model you're looking for no longer exists.
If you're seeking a new printer, a look back through the vast number of threads on the subject on this site will show you that Epson printers don't have many recommendations from AB members. The preferred brand here (and consistently, for many years, in the technical press and online review sites) is Canon.

The Epson XP312 uses ink cartridge reference 18XL, whereas the XP342 uses cartridges of a different size, 29XL, therefore you will find that they are not compatible.
As Chris suggested, the most reliable printer I have used for personal work have been Canon models, which are readily and cheaply available either from your local High Street or online.

Oh dear ... sincere apologies to Bathsheba for my ignorance re the workings of these processes - a pal tells me that what I thought was a data corrupted message from you was actually a LINK to where I could find/purchase a 312 ! So once again my grovelling though still sincere apology. Will now have a shot at your link and see what results and will report subsequently. Kind regards.
Dear Bathsheba, mmm.. hope you'll forgive that I'm somewhat amateurish at these things... firstly this best answer business - how and/or who decides ? and what is the point ? is there some kind of reward to the person nominated ? You suggest that I can change it ? but I have absolutely no idea how. Secondly, your LINK did connect me to sites where there was several different possibilities but I did find an Epson245 brand new for £30 at merry hill shopping centre and the ink cassettes are exactly the same as in my faulty 312 - so I plumped for this new one. Finally, thanks again, oh and by the way, a very good new year to you and any other interested parties. Kind regards. xx
After you've selected a 'Best Answer', you'll still see 'Mark as Best Answer' alongside all of the other posts on the thread (except your own). If you simply click on 'Mark as Best Answer' elsewhere, it will switch 'Best Answer' from your initial choice to your new one.
You can see how many BAs a member has got by going to their profile. (Simply click on their username or avatar). For example, the mighty Dannyk13 (one of AB's crossword experts) is way ahead of anyone else

BAs don't really mean much but those of who've got a competitive streak find that it helps to drive us on to answering more questions. As Bathsheba states, I've got a few more than she has, so feel free to switch your 'Best Answer' to her. I promise not to sulk. Well, not too much, anyway ;-)

Hi to both Bathsheba and Buenchico. Ahh ! I think I've got it. I now believe I must have unknowingly hovered over Buenchicos answer and involuntarily clicked it as best answer. Now that the subject has been clarified somewhat, I have succeeded in clicking on Bathsheba who is now the best answer. I hope this helps to soften my unintended insult at the beginning. Further, dear Buenchico, hope you'll not feel too bad re the amended position. I now sign off a wiser and chastened answerbanker. Kind regards to all.
