I can't open my bonnet!!!

Can anyone please tell me how to open the bonnet on my 2000 X reg Laguna? I've had it for nearly 6 years and no problems opening the bonnet regularly to check oil , screenwash etc. Now, when I pull the release handle nothing happens. I've had it in a local garage (not a Renault dealership) and the guy there said he could get in by smashing the radiator grill! I didn't fancy this so took it to the Renault dealer. They quoted me �254 to do the job. There must be a simple cheaper way! Help please!

have you tried having someone push down on the bonnet while you pull on the release handle?

Common problem on Laguna's along with the heater.
If you can get underneath the car and reach up through the engine compartment you should be able to free the catches (there are two)
