NoM no-one is jealous of you, your parents or their flipping orangery. We have an orangery, but it would never have come up in conversation excepting this discussion because you brought it up. I agree people shouldn't have to hide the fact they might be better off than someone else financially, but that ins#t what irritated people. what annoyed them was that eating on their laps etc was somehow judged to be a sign of slovenliness and not being brought up nicely. No-one is jealous, just irked at the 'considerably richer than you' nonsense going on and the underhand insults.
Kval, I'm not sure who is looking down on who here, or whether it's a case of mass paranoia.
My parents aren't rich but are, by some people's standards, well off. My mother wanted to move house but my selfish ape of a father had his own way as usual and my mother had to make do with an extension on her existing home. Someone mentioned an orangery and I mentioned that my parents have recently had one. There was no bragging.
There was no need for comments about being pretentious.
Oh and I beg to differ - jealously is an ugly trait which some on here exhibit frequently.
