Never had this before until I bought a new laptop. Every once in a while, especially when I open a new link, a circle enclosing a white dot appears on my task bar. Hovering over it it says: 'Your location is currently in use'. It doesn't affect perormance and disappears after a few seconds. I just wondered what it meant.

You need to alter the "Location" settings in "Privacy" -

It means that w10 is tracking you location Jackdaw..... You can turn it off.

It can be useful if, for example, you're trying to find a nearby branch of a chain - it can use your current location rather than you having to type in a town or postcode.

Thanks, both. It wan't really a problem. I was just curious as to what it meant. Anyway, I've switched it off. I just thought it might be something more sinister.

I find it quite useful - I have a TomTom and can set up a route on my laptop and send it to the TomTom. On holiday it knows where I am to start the trip.
The strange thing is that my laptop connects wirelessly to my router and gets my location right. My desktop, connected via a cable to the router, is about 10 miles off with my location.

I leave mine on Jackdaw it is useful for route planning and weather sites etc. Also useful, as bhg says, if you do any online shopping etc. As long as you have the unmentionable activated you will not be tracked by the retailers and such.

Even if you turn it off, Big Brother knows where you are by your mobile phone.
