Does anyone know whatever happened to Steven Smith and Father? They were a drum- and organ-playing instrumental duo; and, in 1972, they were multiple-winners of the TV talent show 'Opportunity Knocks' (greatly aided, no doubt, by the fact that drummer Steven was just five years of age!)
Last year I bought a load of LPs at a car boot sale, one of which was SS and F, since then I have asked many people what happened to them including radio presenter and music guru Big George Webley. I believe the came from Bognor Regis.
Hi there i am infact stevens sister. (well Half) He sadly gave up drumming after his so called dad walked out on my mum, and 2 brothers. He was from bognor and my mum is back living there, i am in chichester and he now lives in Jersey channel islands. He is a very succesful banker who has worked his way up to the top. His son now plays the drums age 12 and is very good i am told takes after his dad!
By any miracle, does anyone have a copy of that Opportunity Knocks programme from 1972, which also included Cannon and Ball, and the Teign Valley Stompers which my father was a member of? My Dad would really like to get hold of a copy of that programme?
Hi there well I am actually Steven half sister! They stopped when his father walked out on my mum leaving her with 2 young boys. He sadly no longer plays the drums but is a very successful investment banker. His sun however has recently taken up the drums and is amazing!
Thanks Twinkleties21, I gigged with Steven and his dad in the late 7Os/early 80s singing a few pop songs with them. My name was Sylvia Wade back then and I was at school with Steven. I'm still in the area and would love to get in contact and reminisce! :-) do get in touch through here or on Facebook : Sylvia McEwen. Best regards, Sylvia.x
Does anyone have any clips of Oppurtunity Knocks from 1972. My dad Dave Newman won it for 7 weeks running. He was beaten by a boy on the drums Steven Smith and Father I think. I remember seeing a clip on u tube and a neice or nephew posted it was their uncle and his surname is now Steve Bowan
