Could competing firms who put in tenders for contracts that were given to Carillion, if it was found that they were being used to keep the company going, sue the government as the tenders were not on a level playing field?

Why would they sue the government? Carillion isn't a nationalised company. The government is a customer.

If it could be found that the bidding process for the contracts were at fault, and that the Government awarded the contracts wrongly, then there may be a case for legal action Barney.

Meanwhile the bonuses for Carillion bosses has been blocked, so, some a small sliver of good news then.

Barney, my apologies. I misread your question. Sue the government for what? Not giving the contract to them instead of Carillion? I very much doubt it.

The Government shouldn't have been offering work to Carillion, after 3 consecutive profits warnings.

Mikey, a profit warning simply means that profits will be lower than expected, not that a company is about to go into liquidation. Only a few days ago Leeds Council (Labour) was about to award the company £100m contract.

Ignoring one profit warning seems to be unfortunate, but ignoring 3 consecutive ones smacks of incompetence.

They had all the information about Carillion, and where the contracts were going to , and who was milking it.
