Repacement For Potterton Suprima Boiler

Hi. I live in a 3 bed detached house and think my old (20 years) Potterton Suprima is on its way out....currently not working and awaiting repair / diagnosis, so I am preparing my self for replacing it. Can anyone give me an idea of cost, can it be directly replaced (ie just swapped for a similar model) or will I have to change to a combi. Thanks in advance

I think a new combi is the answer, as long as you get a good make, like Worcester. Added advantage of instant(ish) hot water, and no cold tank in the loft to worry about - can be drained and forgotten about.

I can see no reason why you need to change it for a combi.

When we had a boiler problem a few years ago, our plumber-neighbour advised that we resisted having it replaced as the new boilers appear to have a design-life of about 10 years. If your boiler is 20 years old, do your best to keep it.

Gas boilers can last for 20 years. I know of one that is 30 years old. Oil boilers... certainly very unlikely.

Changing to a combi is a matter of ... how you use it, and how many are in your household, among other things. I'd need to know more to advise.

I doubt if it can be replaced (swapped) directly. There's usually a degree of fiddling with a few things, mainly the flue arrangement.

Get your quotes. For gas, it should be around £2 - 3,000

As TB says..your lifestyle will best determine your choice.Whether you have a combi or a conventional boiler look for one with a long warranty...many up to 10 years.... and many now come with a stainless steel heat exchanger.
