It depended on your situation and certainly your age - as youngsters we found it mostly fun , though chapped legs from wellies after the long walk because the bus didn't turn up weren't nice.

It was nice to help neighbours out, both digging paths and running errands for them - even more than we normally did.

Mum worried about Dad a lot as he was a Postman on the walks and he did the farms and smallholdings up on the moors, but he always made it back with a rosy glow from a few friendly warming snifters.

Yes they do shoot it out of season.
ummm where I lived at the time (Battersea) still has local shops pretty much where they were...no butchers or fishmongers now but still corner type shops...actually where I live now (and have lived for around 30 years) while the shops have changed, there are still local corner shops pretty much where they were when we moved in...and also new small tesco and sainsburys have taken over two local closed pub sites.
Love this show, its the best one on TV me thinks, it was filmed in the summer, they must have been so hot in all the coats etc. I wasn't born then either, must ask my parents how they coped.
i remember school milk thawed out in front of heaters ugh!!!! .my mum mopping up water that was cascading from burst pipes .
I recall opening the back door and facing a wall of snow, took us ages to get out but I'm not sure it was 62/63, might have been earlier.
i can't recall it at all for some reason, yet i was going to school and can't remember having time off to go snow ball fighting or building igloos, strange that i can't recall it, seeing as how bad it was.
I don't remember it either, but maybe we were used to bad winters, as they were definitely the norm then and kids don't care ....
