Have Gouged Brand New Cars Alloys!!

Can anyone help before Mr Smow kills me??
Have only had car a month - was driving down road when two police cars came racing up behind me trying to get past. Ive pulled to the left as quickly as I could to get out of the way and I’ve scraped the two left side alloy wheels along the kerb. I’ve got out and looked and both rims are quite badly gouged. Help!?

You'll need to get them reconditioned, it's not a DIY thing you can do before he gets home. Accidents happen, he'll have to understand I'm afraid :(

First - check the tyre walls very carefully - make sure they're not split.

Have a google for "alloy wheel refurb" in your local area - shouldn't cost more than £60 - £70 per wheel unless you've really trashed them.

I had one done a while ago - looked better than new.

No tyres are definitely fine. It’s literally caught the round edging of both alloys. Grrrrr....

If it was me, since I'd have the pain with the OH anyway, I might just live with the cosmetic damage on the basis that "stuff happens in the city and might happen again".

I know it's done now but we can't just evaporate, even for the police.
If they need to pause for a second or two until it's safe to pass on their mission of mercy then so be it.
Causing mayhem on the way helps no-one and, as you've seen for yourself, can make things worse for others.

Somewhere like Chips Away might be worth a call, I think they come to you.

Park close to a wall? It's one of those situations where had he done exactly the same thing it would have been an 'accident', when you do it it's different. I speak from experience! The other day he hit a pothole that we knew was there, it was my fault though for not warning him in enough time!!

well as you have a brand new car, the old man can't get too annoyed having already away thousands so why not get them professionally refurbed for £60-£80 a wheel. Plenty of places do that.

Depends if your OH inspects the car inch by inch every time he gets in it. Say nothing he probably won’t notice till the next time he gets down on his knees to wash the wheels that’s if he does it rather than a car wash.
