Has anyone had a GFR test?

I've been ill for a few weeks now, and my GP is still trying to work out what it is. I had blood tests last week and he hasn't said if they were clear or not. But next Monday I've got to have a GFR test. I'm not looking forward to it, so if you've had one can you just tell me it'll be Ok and not to worry. Thanks

Ps. No stories about what you had or what you think it might be, I'm a big enough hypochondriac as it is.

I cannot claim to have had a GFR test, or know anyone who has. It is natural to worry about having any (medical) tests done, especially as we are entering into something we are really unsure of.

There are a lot of fact sheets available on the net to give you sound advice and reassurance on GFR tests, and from what I have seen, this is a relatively simple test which involves injecting a dye into a vein and taking blood samples to measure how well the kidneys� drainage tubes are filtering out the dye.

I am sure that if you have any concerns at the time, the nurse will be able to help you.

Just been to the Doc's this morning and apparently they can test the GFR using only a urine sample, which is a lot more injection-free. Woo-Hoo!

Also its a new government thing they've introduced for everyone to back up any blood tests they have.

(Would've been nice for the Receptionist to tell me my test were clear and not just tell me I need to have further tests.)
