Can someone please explain? 6d is ANALGESIC, but 20a should be CRACKER but if it is the last letter of 6d is A not C. Help please!

Why can't 6d be ANALGESIA - what is the clue?

the inability to feel pain.
medication that acts to relieve pain
The answer is analgesia although I agree it should be analgesic.

The way the clue is worded leads to Analgesic, I agree - but has to be Analgesia to fit the other clues.
