Absolutely absurd to remove this painting 'to encourage debate'.. Where will all this censorship end?

Yes
There’ll be a slanging match by post-it note and then they’ll put it back ...
I saw this in The Guardian this morning and immediately thought.... what a load of old pony !

it says "temporarily". How's that censorship?
It isn’t censorship but it does seem daft. You’d think if debate was being sought then they shoud let people see what the fuss was about.
it's been there all this time ichkeria, and no debate. Remove it and you get so much debate it even includes an AB thread. Job done.
To what end tho I wonder?
I’m puzzled as to what is it about this work of art that makes it so controversial
I've seen some descriptions of the nymphs as underage. I don't see this myself; but if someone produced evidence that all the models were 13 years old at the time, I wonder if reactions would be different?
It they joined AB they'd see you only have to wrinkle your nose to start a debate of some kind.

Utterly bizarre. This is art from the 19th century.
‘Let’s challenge the Victorian fantasy’ I saw was one comment.
It’s enough to make you despair.

Not so much starting a debate I feel as starting an argument in an empty art gallery ..
the picture is still visible online if people want to see what the fuss is about. I have been watching the Andrew Graham Dixon series on the Royal Collection and its interesting to hear what he says about art and porn
Hylas and the nymphs with the big boobies has been restored to its Easel

by taking it down and allowing people to comment on the blank space ( performance art if I ever I saw any ) they wished to stir up debate and comment

= it was a gimmick to get publicity
