Irrespective of having to, if you are travelling abroad, it is advisable to have insurance anyway.

You must declare any medical condition which an insurer asks about, which would usually include diabetes. However it's highly unlikely that an insurer would require you to undergo a medical examination.

Everyone should have travel insurance. Some insurers allow you to exclude certain medical conditions but it's up to you if you want to take that risk

I also have type 2 diabetes and use the insurers bunechico recommends. You can get a single trip policy or an annual policy. No medical required but a medical questionnaire on the phone. All quite straightforward.

I wouldn't risk going to the US without medical insurance, jahuyla, where costs could quickly run into thousands- and I doubt very much your figure of 0.001%. Did you mean 1%? (Even that seems low- I know people who have ended up in the equivalent of A&E on holiday)
