what is 6V DC?!

I want to get some speakers to use with mp3 players, but i don't know the difference between AC adaptors and 6V DC adaptors..help?! thanks!

If you plug it into the mains, the INPUT will say something like AC(~)230V. The OUTPUT may say something like AC 9V(~)300mA, in which case its output is AC (Alternating Current) and is 9V. If the OUTPUT says something like 9VDC, or includes DC somewhere on the same line, it is DC (Direct Current).
If you see something like a circle with a minus in it then a line, with a symbol in the middle and then another line leading to a circle with a plus in it, then the output is DC. The symbol in the middle shows whether it is positive or negative polarity. You need to get this right if it is DC adaptor you are getting.
