I have an exotic (shorthair persian) cat. He has a flat face. I am trying to find out if he COULD be a cross breed or if only "pedigrees" (I use the term loosely as I know you need to be registered to be classed as pedigree strictly speaking) have the smooshed up faces? Either way he's adorable, but I am just wondering

He could easily be a cross, but have inherited the flat face from one of his parents. I had a lovely tortoiseshell female who was long coated and flat faced, mother was a ginger moggy and dad a black persian.

A better description would be 'purebred' rather than pedigree, as all that means is that you know the parents.
Purebred indicates that the cat comes from parents of the same breed.

thanks for the answer.
I ahve been trying to find out for ages, as we wanted tos how him, but can't in the pedigree / purebreed section as no papers. So we wondered if he was a cross breed, but didnt want to put him in cross section and get done for cheating!
And up until now nobody i ahve asked has been able to tell me if cross breeds can have the nicely smooshy faces or not.
Thanks!
I am sure they have classes for 'pet' cats. Contact a cat club and ask. Try the GCCF website for a club near you.
I will enquire from a 'catty' friend and let you know.

Apparently most shows have classes for Household Pets, and they can be unregistered pedigrees, pedigree lookalikes or out and out moggies. The above site will give you a list of shows. Knowledgeable friend also referred to it as an Exotic Shorthair, so you could be right. Its only the top show (The Supreme) that you can't enter without qualifiying. A lot of show people started with Household Pets.
