Road Cones

Went to Abergavenny today, not been for a few months. Still got A40 down to one lane. I measured it this time. Almost 5 miles coned off while they played about with a smallish ole on the embankment.
This has been going on for years. How can they justify it?

The section relating to signage and coning of areas scheduled for roadworks is over 300 pages long and very complex, they have to be x distance before and x after - also the works within that coned area could move along as the days go by.

Then there's the added complication of when the works are finished waiting for the truck to collect.

I knew someone who had to try to coordinate this in the North west, no easy task.

There has long been talk of reducing the lengths of coning etc.
