Try this for cheek.

Car recalled (second occasion) for airbag mechanism replacement. Fair enough, there is such a 'recall' on the www. Took the car to Nissan Mill Hill, collected it 4 hours later (long time for a 15 minute job), and my partner was presented with a quotation for over £500-worth of 'necessary' work.

Now, some of it was necessary (new headlight bulb), but not only was much of it only advisable (worn brake pads etc), some of it was just daft - spare tyre 70% worn!

The airbag mechanism is under the dashboard.

The spare wheel is in the back of the car, under a panel, secured with a bolt.

Point being of course is that they had to strip out the car to discover all these 'faults'. Which would lead any thinking person to wonder whether the whole thing isn't a scam, or an opportunistic attempt to drum up some extra business while they've got our car in their workshop.

This is the second time in 3 years that they've called the car back for an airbag mechanism check. My partner remembers a similar 'quotation for work' the last time too. There won't be a third time! The worrying thing is that while my partner is quite capable of saying "you must be joking", many similar women, getting on in years, might not be. Not criminal, but certainly dubious.

Any similar experiences, with Nissan or any other dealers?

To the best of my knowledge suckers, gullible fools etc come in both genders.

Perhaps the dealer is being cheeky but they have flagged points for you to be aware of.
The garage is "damned if it does, and damned if it doesn't".

It has had your car in its care - if it says nothing & you subsequently have an accident (or get a PCN) due to some defect then it will rightly be castigated.

If it points out the defects then it is ... castigated.

Which doesn't mean they are not trying to drum up some trade, just that they are also just being careful.
You got a free safety check with no commitment, what's to complain about?
my local garage did a full vehicle check as 'a matter of policy' when i took mine for repair.
Caught 'em out though because they had broken a brake sensor bolt and the brake sensor was dangling when I got it back.
They said 'Not me guv - we didnt break it'
I said ' so why wasnt it on your inspection report then'
got it fixed free of charge - cheeky ***

There is a contrarian element on this website which seems to delight in proving you wrong about anything, rather than entering into a civilised and polite debate about it. Shame.
Isn't pointing out that there are two ways of looking at it entering into a debate? If everybody agrees with you there is no debate.
It seems that anyone advancing a (mild enough) contrary argument to one of your posts is, de facto, 'uncivilised' - I can see nothing insulting here - just points of view that are different to yours.
They should have at least rung you and ask you if you wanted to work done before going ahead with it.

You didn't agree to the extra work so don't pay for it.
"They should have at least rung you and ask you if you wanted to work done before going ahead with it."
I suggest you re-read the original post. They didn't do the work, but suggested it should be done, and provided a quote.
Did anyone see the student from Brighton last week. Quickfit recommended she have a new air con pump at £700.. she thought it was bit steep and took the car for a second opinion.. she was then advised she didn't have air con.
Don't you just love big garages and franchises.

One of the biggest problems with AB atm is people not reading/understanding posts before replying imo.
I'd be a bit worried about my daughter if she didn't know whether her car had aircon or not. That doesn't excuse the "mechanic" or QFt of course.

Uncivilised and insulting are not terms I used.

It’s not war, it’s not a fight. I say something, you comment, I comment, we (hopefully) arrive at some concensus.

No blood, no shouting.

I do chuckle at them flagging up the spare wheel being 70% worn.

To me it's a victory to have one 99% worn.

What's the point in having a pristine spare tyre, that eventually perishes due to its age.
yep taking the sipp, just say thanks for the advice. If they do anything without asking then tell them to reverse it.
