My daughter and her husband both work and claim child benefit and tax credits for their six children. For the past two years, her eldest sixteen year old son has lived with me and my wife, and my daughter pays housekeeping for him, and buys clothes and everything else.
We are applying for a house move to social housing, and been told my grandson would not be included as a permitted occupant because we don't get child benefit for him.
If we did, would my daughter lose out on tax credits? My grandson costs her the same wherever he lives.
Your kind advice would be most appreciated. Thank you.

If you get him registered as being permanently with you and claim child benefit for him . Yes, your daughter will lose the child benefit & tax credits she gets for him. But she will still get child benefit & tax credit for the other 5 children.
You can't have two people claiming benefit / tax credit for the same child. It's one or the other.

Yes I get that. Want to know if I claimed the child benefit simply to prove him as a legitimate occupant, would my daughter be worse off? Remember, she funds his total expenses, not me.
yes, she'd be worse off - she wouldnt be getting the child benefit for a start. She needs to see a benefit advisor regarding the rest (or there are plenty of onlinf forms you can fill in to see. No=one here without knowing her complete circumstances will be able to give you a correct answer
Is your grandson the eldest child? You would get max child benefit for him and the next oldest of the remaining children would then move up to the max allowance. It would benefit you to have the child as registered living with you and claiming all the associated benefits.
