When I was working at a railway station I tried to help a Brazilian lady who was stranded in the town overnight be phoning over 60 hotels and B&Bs in the area for her. She was prepared to pay up to £120 for a room but the cheapest I was offered was £160 without breakfast. (I eventually had to put her on the last train to another town, where I'd found a pub with a cheap room for her). That was about 15 years ago, so I'm unsurprised that some places are pushing their prices close to £200 per night these days.

We VERY occasionally stay at a nice B&B ( there is one in Bath which is exquisite and that's much more than that) but usually it's a cheap and cheerful £30 per night effort or a travel lodge, or better still self catering cottage or apartment, and tbh it's just a room you sleep in unless it's a special occasion and you want something really fancy :)
