Here goes genius Trump again. He now proposes more guns rather than fewer by arming school teachers. How far round the twist will he be allowed to go and remain in office? Has the NRA got to him first before the school pupils?

I have not seen a proposal from Trump, he was parroting a suggestion by the NRA about arming teachers - CRAZY!
Fortunately the youngsters are not so easily fooled as some ABers.

I hate to say it, but it's not as outrageous as it sounds to us and it might just help to cut the number of attacks. We're talking about America, not here. The right to bear arms is deep in the American psyche, whether we think it should be or not. Armed staff may be able to disable/kill an attacker before many children are killed. This has got to be a benefit.
The other benefit would be the deterrent. Real nutcases won't be stopped, but grudge-bearing immature young adults might well be. Again the result is lives saved.

My own feeling is, given that Americans will never be persuaded to give up carrying guns (draconian legislation would only lead to underground trade), that they should be free to buy shotguns and non-automatic pistols. Other arms would need a licensing system.
It might cut the death toll.

I think that arming teachers will only add to the problem not diminish it. Training them on how to handle a weapon is one thing, expecting them to be cool, calm and efficient under fire is another. Do they really want another child to die caught up in crossfire but this time from a teachers weapon? do they want a teacher to die because a policeman mistakenly believed an armed teacher was a gunman? America is morally reprehensible in believing a childs life is less important than a constitutional amendment.

A perfectly reasonable suggestion. After all the reason other countries are not experiencing the same issue is that they arm their teachers so they can be gunmen and be ready for the gunfight at the OK Corral Academy For Young Gentlefolk. After all that what folk get into teaching for, to carry a gun and shoot people (and get shot at too). And the kids will appreciate the excitement too, so everyone wins.

Did you not read mine or jourdain2 posts?

Two teachers lost their lives protecting the kids in this latest one. If they were brave enough to do that then I'm sure they would have had no doubt but to have tried to plug the piece of scum shooting.

It really is not ideal, but you simply are not going to remove the weapons in the short term so a solution needs to be found whilst longer term solutions are looked at, including understanding why Americans do this sort of thing more than anywhere else in the world (and that is not because of guns they want revenge or something so any weapon - bomb, car or truck will do).
