Knee Diagnosis- Patellar Tendonitis
2 Answers
Hi there
I have been in a bit of pain with this knee so I went to GP and he examined me throughly and he told me it is something called Patellar Tendonitis. It could take a few weeks to heal. I was hoping for a bandage or knee support but told put painkilling gel on it, exercise and rest and cocodamol. I have not to put on a bandage as it may make things worse long term??

Do you think that you should have had some strapping prescribed?
If so.....this is a matter of opinion, some Drs feel it helps, others have the opinion that it doesn't help and some say that in the long term it makes the knee less stable.
My opinion? I don't know, but i would suggest that you treat as suggested by your Dr.

I had bother with both knees when I was a bit more active on the badminton court and went to a sports physio.
His treatment was pretty much as your doctor suggested along with a wee touch of heat and ultrasound.
It took about a month to heal fully.
The exercises consisted of finding something to sit on that let my feet swing free and gently extend each knee, gradually increasing the movement as strength developed and pain diminished.
I haven't had any bother since. It's worth the small effort.
