We have been hearing warnings about the 'Beast from the East' , heavy snow from Siberia for days now. Here we have had a few minor flurries of snow but nothing has settled.
However the local rail network has announced that services will start to be withdrawn from 6pm and cancelled entirely from 10pm with no bus replacement. They are going to look pretty stupid if, as looks likely we get only a few millimeters of snow or even none at all. So has The Beast from the East, bitten you yet? North Herts/South Cambs border.

It's minus 9 degrees here in the Swabian Alps, but sunny. I have a stainless steel, spring loaded golf-ball sized tea strainer which over a time becomes coated with a brown tannic deposit. I put it outside this morning in a cup of white vinegar to remove the stain - not wanting the vinegar smell in the kitchen- It is so cold that I just found it in a solid block of ice. I didn't think vinegar would freeze.
Holding it under the tap, the ice melted away revealing a sparkling clean strainer, usually I have to brush off the brown deposit, there must be a scientific reason for this, the deposit must have stuck to the ice, I guess.
A new discovery and one small step for man!
...and a giant leap for mankind... ;0)
We've had a few mini-flurries throughout the day. I've just glanced up at the window after a few minutes on here, and it's now properly snowing and settling on the lawn.
Fairly horrible here now. Started about 20 mins. ago; settling and freezing. :(
It is now freezing hard. Just taken the dog out and it is proper biting. Remember when you were a kid and the snow crunching under foot was a great feeling? Now it feels like be careful, mind how you tread and don't slip over. Hope you all stay warm and cosy.
Obviously snowed quite hard here, West Norfolk, there's about a couple of inches now, luckily we decided to go and get the shopping today rather than tomorrow, Take care everyone.

You should put a muzzle on it, Togo :-)

As a child, I had to wear my dad's socks over my boots to stop me slipping. I would rather have fallen over. It would have less embarrassing. ;(
Lol@Ken. :)) Not the dog.... the cold. Haha.
Aahhh, but when I was a lad...........

In town today and i bumped into someone i have known since junior school. We were talking about the schools shutting because of the 'bad weather' and remembering that when it was bitterly cold, each class took it in turns to use the school hall for a half hour of PE or games, just to warm us up. Then we were returned to the classroom to carry on learning our times tables and what have you. Of course, this was all before elf and safety was invented.
I was 15 yrs old then Capito, and didn't even know it was cold. Just dug the 3ft snow away from the door and went out.
Yes, I was 10 Togo and remember it quite well; makes you wonder how we got through really. I know the video is 40+ minutes long but it is worth looking through it. I especially like the old steam trains with snowploughs on the front just shifting mountains of snow.
It's minus 5.4 outside here on the SE coast.
I believe in 'it's too cold to snow' in this country. Having worked outside all my life, it always gets relatively warm before it snows.
I can only surmise different forces are at work in those really cold countries.
