Wimps!!!

Between 8.00 and 9.00 this morning I had 7 phone calls from people saying they couldn't make it to my lunch club. I was amazed as we had only the slightest of dusting of snow from last night. Main roads were open no problems at all. They were really just worried about what would happen.
I rang the pub and explained what had happened. I was unsure what to do, whether to cancel completely or ride it out. The problem was, if I cancel now there will be no charge. But if I leave it until lunch time and more people cancel there will be a charge for not taken meals.
The pub manager and I decided it would be best if we cancel now even though there was no snow.
I then had the job of telephoning 39 people to tell them it was cancelled.
We did have further snow about 11.00 but not enough to cause a problem,
then again at 3.30, heavier but folk would have got home by then.
Disappointing but we have another lunch club arranged for next month.

No one else wants to take over. That's always the way in an organisation and the U3A is no different.
I'll carry on as long as I can.
I also sort out all the raffle prizes and sell the tickets
As well as being a long standing committee member.
The trouble is no one wants to get involved. It's always someone else can do it.
I remember when the numbers for lunch club were getting a bit high. I suggested we had two lunch clubs a month. I said I would set it up but someone else would have to run it. No takers at all. It meant I had to restrict the numbers and have a cancellation list as the majority of pubs couldn't accommodate the higher numbers.
But that's life!

Sorry caren but I must disagree with you .we are not wimps .we are only doing what advised to stay in if its not urgent to go out . And I would say missing a lunch to be safe is what we should do .
The weather can change quite quickly .I would not go for fear of falling or sliding with car .then I can't say I wish I hadn't gone .
Hope your next one goes well,
