Hi
mshearer, is there a bit missing from your assignment question? Are they successful in doing
what, exactly. Or is it just "are they successful in approaching memory".
Well anyway your topic sounds great, please don't change it. If you haven't thought of it already, you should have a look at
Giorgio de Chirico. I think you'll find plenty inspiration in his paintings as such, but if you don't, there's always the subject of his self-forgeries, you could easily relate them, too, to the subject of memory.
Wikipedia: De Chirico's later paintings never received the same critical praise as did those from his metaphysical period. He resented this, as he thought his later work was better and more mature. He produced backdated "self-forgeries" both to profit from his earlier success, and as an act of revengeretribution for the critical preference for his early work. He also denounced authentic paintings from his early period, and even his own later self-forgeries, as anonymous forgeries.
Good luck!
