I have one of these but the remote is complicated and I cannot figure out how to get text. can anyone help?

Text? What text? Ceefax and Oracle ended long ago. Unless you mean subtitles, in which case the button is usually marked AD/SUBT or SUB.

in that case, postdog, I also have a Toshiba with remote and that has TXT and pressing that gives me text on bbc channels. what are you talking about?

If you have subtitles on the red button won't work. You need to switch the subtitles off.

What a rude comment. Postdog is absolutely right, CEEFAX and ORACLE died with analogue TV; he was trying to be helpful and asking you to clarify your post.

Have you tried the button on the top row of the remote that gives this
/ option. I think pressing the / icon moves the tv through 3 phases. Picture no text, picture and text, exit text.

Hmm. Different models have different remotes. Your remote may be this method.
While watching a program with subtitles/closed captions, press the CC/SUBTITLE button to turn the subtitles/closed captions on or off.
Using the Touchpad Remote Control, press the Control Bar (....), slide the touchpad to highlight the CC/SUBTITLE button, then press the touchpad to select.

You asked an ambiguous question. I gave you a perfectly valid answer given the options open, including how to find subtitles if that's what you meant.

FYI, having a text button does not mean you can press it and get a defunct service.
