Printer Not Responding To Laptop...

My laptop is not printing. The printer is recognised by the laptop as it has a green tick on the printer icon on the Devices and Printers. The stand-alone printer is working as I've scanned something, but the laptop is not "talking" to the laptop
However, when I go to print anything, it takes me to "Save the file as". Even if I have saved the file, it will still not print.
It keeps saying something about the "Homegroup". I've tried to follow all on-screen procedures but I get bogged down in it & it still isn't working.
This printer 'set-up' worked when I used it last & it's only me that uses it, so it's not as if other people have done anything. But I just can't work it out?
Can ANYONE please advise me on what to do?

Thank you.

Does your laptop recognise the "printer" and "scanner" as two separate devices. If so when you go to print it should give the option of printer or scanner. Choose printer.
The green tick simply means it's the default printer. My printer is switched off and I still have the green tick. Is the printer online? Click on the icon with the green tick and float the cursor over it and it will tell you.
