Wiring a new light
6 Answers
My missus has decided that she wants a light putting outside on the side of the garage wall.
Currently inside the garage there is already a light and a switch, the switch looks like it has a single wire going in and another coming out presumably with the switch just breaking the circuit (although I haven't opened it up to check this yet).
Is there any way I can replace this with a two gang switch , one for the garage light and the other for the outside light and if so how do I wire it all up without blowing the garage up ?
Cheers

Yes thanks to the new part P regs, even those of us who know what they are doing are not allowed to do it anymore!!
the wire you refer to is the switch wire, which (as you guessed)breaks the 'Live' to the fitting. It is not where you need to be looking for a supply to your ouside light. Yes you could bring a second cable down there and swop to a twin switch, but power would have to come from the lighting ring in your ceiling, You should certainly consult an 'expert' for this job.
