I heard a song that has stuck in my head, which starts with the lyrics, "I rode through the desert on a horse with no name, it felt good to be out of the rain". I would appreciate it if someone could tell me the songs name and the artist who sang it. Cheers.

The song is called "A Horse with No Name" by the band America. Released in around 1972 it was their biggest hit, and their most recognisable song. I don't know much about the band America, except that they were the sons of United States servicemen based in Germany at the time of their formation.
I had the album this song was on back in the early 70s, the next hit was Muskrat Susie, Muskrat sam, it was a lovely little tune.
America are an English-American rock and roll band, most popular in the early and mid 1970s and early 1980s and now best known for their #1 hits "A Horse With No Name" and "Sister Golden Hair." They are also known for the classic rock radio staple "Ventura Highway". Although they were seldom a favourite with critics, from a commercial standpoint, the band's singles and albums were exceptionally successful. Despite the presence of other heavyweight acts like James Taylor and Rod Stewart on their roster, Warner Brothers Records' biggest selling act of the 1970s was America. The band still maintains a strong following and performs over 100 shows per year.

Members include:

Gerry Beckley (born September 12, 1952 in Fort Worth, Texas) 1970-present lead and backing vocals, keyboards, guitars, bass, harmonica
Dewey Bunnell (born January 19, 1951 in Harrogate, Yorkshire, England) 1970-present lead and backing vocals, guitars
Dan Peek (born November 1, 1950 in Panama City, Florida) 1970-1977 lead and backing vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards, harmonica

That';s from wikipaedia, wow, harrogate eh? i knew one of the original band was English.
