Lee.... I am a Licensed Pharmacy Tech in the state of Indiana 17yrs now. I can answer this for you on 2 levels.
A) Although I am not familiar with Piriton tablets here in IN, it looks to me, when I did a search, like the active ingredient is Chlorpheniramine..... So I would say NO. Do not give that to your jack.
B) I too am a jack russell owner. "Marshall" has horrible allergies and suffers from "hot spots" every spring, summer & fall. I give him childrens chewable Benadryl. the active ingredient is Diphenhydramine 12.5mg, every 4 hrs as needed. Hes not itchy! And wayyy more mellow :)

You can give your dog Piriton - but you should ask your vet first as he/she will be able to prescribe the correct dose for your dog!

You give dogs Benadryl and Piriton ? I don't believe it !!

You should never self dose a dog without consulting a vet first.
I put rock sulphur in my dogs' drinking water in this hot weather (recommended by my vet) which is all he needs to cool him down and stop him scratching.Plus a good hose down with cool water from the garden hose of an evening or a dip in the sea.

my dog takes piriton as she gets really bad eyes with the pollen and yes she is prescribed them by the vet

it is safe to give a dog benadryl, either chewable or the capsules (coat them with peanut butter so the dog will take it) the dosage for benadryl is 2 mg per pound (2.2 kg) every 8 hours

Well....I have never heard of giving these drugs to dogs ..but if the vet says they are ok then that's good.
Perhaps I am lucky with my hardy creature in that he has never had much wrong with him ! He gets Vetzyme and Vitapet everyday and is quite fit at 10 years old for a large crossbreed.
