Bt Wifi-X

I've had BT as my Internet Service Provider for some years now. By and large the service has been satisfactory.

However, in the recent past, I have noticed that when I power up my iPad the Settings >>Wifi indicates that it has defaulted to BT Wifi-X. I only realised this when I got a screen message saying "Cannot access Mail accounts" etc or "Cannot access cellular data" whereupon I change the setting from BT Wifi-X to my router number/letter details.

It's not a problem, but irritating inasmuch as it happens virtually very time I switch the iPad on.

The questions I have are:-

1. What is BT wifi -X designed for?

2. Is there anyway to get the iPod to default to my BT Router account?

BT WiFi and BT Wifi Fon and BT Wifi- are for any BT customers to use anywhere in the country...You can tell your iPad to Forget This Network and click on your router's main listing i.e. Bt Home Hub3 or similar.

Thanks for your time and courtesy in replying to my Question Jomlett.

So far I can only switch to my router wifi by tapping the wifi settings screen and selecting my own router/wifi detailsBtHub4 etc. When you say that I can tell the iPad to Forget This Network, are you meaning that it will default automatically to my account but leave the BT Wifi-X in place for use away from home or, are you saying that it (BT Wifi-X) will no longer appears in the wifi settings screen.

If it is the former, how exactly do I tell the iPad to forget the wifi X network?

I don't have an iPad with me at the moment but checking my iPhone at Settings/Wifi there's a button to switch off - Ask to join Networks. If this is on your iPad will choose any others available, so switch it off and click on your HomeHub.

Thanks J. I have switched the off button on Ask to Join Networks. I'll now switch my iPod, restart it and see what happens. thanks again.

Sadly, it just reverts to BT Wifi-x as the default setting.

Go to Settings - Wifi

If connected to BT Wifi X click on it.

Now click on Forget this network.


Now select your BT router and connect via it.

You'll probably need to turn on Autojoin after this.

Perhaps it is because I have a 1st generation iPad purchased in 2009.

Did you put in your BT ID and password? When I click on BT Wifi-X it wants my ID and password.

That probably explains why I cannot disable BT Wifi-X as being the default setting.

You could try to reset the iPad's network configuration, you must choose the "Settings" , touch "General" and then "Reset" before selecting "Reset Network Settings."

Then go to Settings/wifi and click on your BTHomeHub.

Just checked my other ipad, it is there.

When you go to the wifi and see the list of available networks, when you see the signal strength icon, click on the blue arrow next to it.
