Not really possible to comment without knowing the girl's age.Was she 15 perhaps and a willing participant? If not ,why wasn't the charge attempted rape?
Anyone who knows the definition of a paedophile did not label the footballer as one.
Gromit : "Er,
The Judge wants the result of a couple of reports, and what they conclude will help determine what sentence she lays down. The reports will take some time to prepare, so that is the reason for the delay, not so he can go on holiday. " - Err so bang him up pending reports then.
Then he'd be entitled to claim compensation if he doesn't get a prison sentence.
If I'm reading this version of events correctly there was no actual child, I'll wait and see the outcome.

You are right Lynne. I missed the word 'meet' Doh.
do read the link HC: "Cook was warned he faced jail by Ms Rippon, who agreed to delaying sentencing" - he's been told he's going to jail.
YOU read the link, TTT

Judge Amanda Rippon moved sentencing back a week to May 21, but warned him: “You may be looking at a jail sentence.”

Note the 'may'

//“You may be looking at a jail sentence.”//
it's crackpot time again, sorry but this is ludicrous, surely its time some of these judges were put out to grass.
"Cook was warned he faced jail by Ms Rippon" -
Anyway it’s cobblers, people get remanded in custody all the time and then get let off.
If they were worried about getting sued they’d never remand anyone in custody.

///Cook was warned he faced jail by Ms Rippon, who agreed to delaying sentencing///

That's the DM paraphrasing what the Judge said........(no great surprise there)
“its time some of these judges were put out to grass.”

I agree. It’s time a law was passed in the hoc so that judges who are too lenient or make crackpot decisions should have to immediately have to resit a law exam, have a psychiatric evaluation and be open to being sued or overthrown and replaced.

I’d guess that in light of this new law many if not all judges would “ buck up”
Jahulaye, are you on planet tequila?
Possibly danny, or possibly ...

Sorry - I should address the OP too :

I think the Judge has made a decision based on facts which we don't have.

I think the DM has pilloried the Judge to fit the DM's own agenda.

One (or indeed both) of the above may be wrong - we have no way of knowing from the facts available.

[ and, just for clarity, I find Paedophilia inexplicable and abhorrent - I'm not defending the criminal, just avoiding a knee-jerk response where I don't know the detail of a case ]
Jahulaye
Judges do not just pluck a figure, high or low, out of the sky. They have to adhere to sentencing guidelines which have been worked out by other knowledgeable practitioners. So whatever this Judge finally decides, the sentece will be within accepted parameters.
So no need for anyone to resit their exams.
Thank you, mamyalynne, this appears to be a case of entrapment, possibly by Dark Justice. Also a case of poor reporting even by the Mail’s standards.
