what were the recently discovered apostles/gospels linked to the bible (there were lots of discovery channel adverts about it) and did it actually reveal anything?

I think this was the Judas Gospel where it is supposed to say that Judas was not a traitor but one of Jesus' most trusted disciples.

yes, it is an interesting question: decry Judas all you like but without his actions would the crucifixion have taken place? And if it hadn't, what would have become of the Christian story? So it's easy to believe that Judas was part of the divine plan.

Most agree with the books in the bible and have some extra material too, some in conflict with the church.

It rather brings into focus what a lot of fundamentalists would like to gloss over, namely that the bible did not appear in a flsh of light as God's word but was edited and put together by human hands with decisions being made about what went in and what stayed out

yes jake... the editing, so far from being divinely inspired, seems sometimes to have been just wrong. Abraham, for instance, is said to have come from Ur of the Chaldees... well, the Chaldeans did live in Ur, but not till much later than Abraham's day. It would appear that some editor added 'of the Chaldees' to the original text to make it clear what city was being talked about - and perhaps got it quite wrong, as Abraham's likelier birthplace is not the Chaldean city of Ur in Iraq but Urfa in modern Turkey (where you can see the cave he was born in).

But perhaps the editor didn't have a proper preview panel like we do.

There was also supposedly another gospel, referred to as 'Q', which contains much of Matthew and Luke's source material, but which has never been confirmed to exist.

Surely if there were other stories about Jesus' works, his Father in heaven would have made sure we knew about them before now. Revelation 22; 18 & 19 states that God will protect His Bible, His word. He would not let it be half done.
