Google Maps

I use Google Maps on my phone quite often.

There is a search box at the top and a toolbar at the bottom. Sometimes they hide themselves, which I like, but I can't work out what I do to make this happen.

Any idea?

On an iPhone just tapping on the map does it and another tap brings them back

Mine is a Motorola Android, and that doesn't do it.

Well although they occasionally disappear while I am using it, tapping has no effect. A double tap zooms, so I know it senses it.

Perhaps it's because I've got a budget phone.
