Sixteen unarmed demonstrators shot dead by Israeli troops. This is why many on the left condemn Israel. We are not anti-Seminitic, just anti-military thuggery.
And of course we condemn terrorism by Hamas, no exceptions.
And that is not anti-Palestinian, either!
But we HAVE to talk with all sides to prevent this dreadful bloodshed.

How about a question. It appears to be a widely held belief that the creation of Israel as a state in itself, and a refuge for people of Jewish faith to dwell in peace, was an aberration, and should be reversed. A few months before that a similar arrangement was made for people of the Muslim faith to have their own homeland and the partition of India took place. Were both of these pragmatic solutions wrong, and is so should both Israel and Pakistan cease to exist?

And given the opportunity what would you say? That Israel exists, that it’s a fact of life, and it isn’t going to go away? Make the Palestinians understand that and you will be a miracle worker. And whilst you’re at it tell your hero, Jeremy Corbyn. He’s living in Cloud Cuckoo Land too.

The policy of talking to both sides, famously stated by Churchill as "jaw, jaw, jaw is better than war, war, war" is predicated on the willingness of two parties to compromise. As an earlier poster has observed Israel has already compromised by its withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. Is there any evidence in its constitution or its actions that Hamas has the compromising spirit?
The evidence from both suggests that Hamas will be sarisfied only with the destruction of the Israeli state.
So Bainbrig's "have to" becomes a "what's the point?".
Innit?
