Text Deleted In Word Document...recovery Possible?!
8 Answers
A senior colleague of mine has accidentally deleted the text of some minutes in a word doc that took him a long while to write and it looks as though he's closed the document and saved. I just wondered, instead of him typing it all out again, is there not a way to recover these? It won't be on the back up as he hasn't backed up today but can you not system restore some how? I know this usually doesn't affect files but am hoping for a miracle. Please advise as soon as possible - he looks very stressed! Many thanks in advance

There are only two other suggestions I have one of which may work if the autosave at regular intervals is on.
There is a recycle bin on the worktop which one could look into for a recently saved but now deleted version of the document. Or if that fails there are applications one can download from the Net (not to be saved nor installed to the same drive where the document would have been saved, which if run might find deleted versions that doesn't appear in the recycle bin.

On an intellectual level - yes it is possible but it depends how much money you wanna pay. Most of us say not much in which case looking in the Temp folder seems the only way.
Most docs when 'lost' the only thing lost is the file header and the text is sort of out there somewhere. I was hoping that someone could put their hands on software which will match a string so you could plug in "minutes taken on...." and it would identify bits of text with that in.
The software exists of course - which is how the Feds identify deleted text which no one wants others to see.
So is there software that will print random characters on each of the letters of draft documents before deleting ? Yup there is, I used to use it regularly to prevent my employer seeing union work....
