After telling me he would visit mum in her care home the Corby priest emailed me to say he was arranging for the priest from Kettering who is already looking after Catholics in her home to visit instead.

I sent a polite email back saying thank you but don't trouble the Kettering priest.....I wanted what she would want....a visit from folk in her own parish.

I went to visit Mum today and asked the caring, nursing and admin staff about the Kettering priest....naming and describing him.
Not one person knew him.....he has never visited nor spoken to any of them.
Those of faith are looked after by a lady named B. from Desborough who comes in after a service on Sunday to give out communion.

I think the Corby priest has told me a little fib.......I may have to sit in on one of his services....can hecklers be thrown out of a church service?..... ;-)

You could be right there, Woof.......MrG and I were both atheists but during his long stays in hospital the chaplain would come and chat with him......about just anything and the company was so appreciated....x
Maybe each Priest is saying the other is making the visits?

I can easy hurl a few half bricks through the windows on the way to work, nae bother!

BREAKING NEWS!!!!

An email from the Corby priest following my email about the not known in the care home Kettering priest.

I. He knew my mum very well when he was an assistant priest in Corby and knew of all the work she did for her church and parish.
2. He was unable to visit her because Church protocol prevents a priest from visiting someone in the parish of another priest without permission.
3. Following my last email he has phoned the Kettering priest who has....graciously....given permission for my Mum to be visited by a priest from her parish of sixty years.
4. Corby priest is happy to help out Kettering priest.....a very hard working man.....by visiting my Mum.
5. He is pleased my Mum is going to be visited by a priest from the parish she served faithfully for so long.
6. He thanks me for pursuing this matter and hopes future visits from her parish priest will benefit my Mum.

He omitted to bless me this time...but is praying for me..... :-)

He ended the email with......Your mother deserves to...........nothing else....????

To what I don't know! But I know what he thinks I deserve to........ ;-)

Thanks, Corby....if you could just do the ones down the side.....think Mum paid for the others...... :-)
Reminds me of a time when I told a fib when I was about 14 (amongst many).

I was in the Marillacs in school (like the Legion of Mary) - anyway it was my duty to go and see an old lady in a home quite far away from where I lived. Her name was Emma Tregemma. My mother wouldn't let me go so next day at the Marillacs meeting - my teacher asked me "well how was Miss Tregemma last night" - to which I replied "oh she's fine". Well, said the teacher "that's funny" - she died last night.

sorry Gness - didn't see your post before I posted. Am glad you are getting there.

Oh, Conne! The old lady wasn't struck down just to catch you out in a lie, was she?..... ;-)
Glad you've got a result. Well done.
At last something good is happening. Well done for your persistence.
well done gness!

Thank you, all......I don't know how much, if anything, Mum will get out of a visit......I wish I hadn't been so easy on them earlier.
I saw a rare flicker of recognition today so who knows....it may be good for her.

However, if it makes them pull up their socks about visiting Catholics in this home...or any other...it'll have done some good.....as long as they don't get their own back and visit me when my turn comes.... :-)
You know Gness I know you profess to be an Atheist but you have to believe that you have more Christianity in you than the Catholic clergy I so hope that all your endeavours does lead to change in the democracy of all care homes - these homes need so much radical care, perhaps they do need the cameras inserted invariably as there so many horrible people pretending to be carers and perhaps depending on whistleblowers to blow.

I can't stand Humans, Disablement, Mentally, and And Animals being beaten down.

So whatever you do for your mother - will have a knock on effect for a variety of causes. Good luck Gness - you do have a kind heart. x

I am
oh I hope they do visit you...you will be able to swear at them and throw things and they will have to be all holy and forgiving :)
Further to earlier answers you could contact the Catholic Times but there's also the Universe (Catholic tabloid) and The Catholic Herald, the latter being by far the best of the bunch. I would also communicate with your priest's bishop. Just pop into the diocese website.
Question Author
Oh I'd not claim to be a Christian, Conne....... I think that includes forgiveness.....but I'm an atheist who expects kindness and consideration....... :-)

:-))....Woof....and through their gritted teeth!

Thanks, Scooping.....I am bearing those suggestions in mind. I have, I hope, achieved what my Mum would want but out of that has come the surprise that the priest in charge of caring for Catholics in this home is not known there.....
That I am going to keep an eye on.
I'd not like to discover that other Catholic residents who can't speak up for themselves now are being neglected or abandoned because they're of no more use.
I wouldn't want a visit from a person of the cloth......but for those who would it matters.....
I wonder if they lay claim to the deceased parishioner and charge for the funeral?
