We are taking my elderly parents on holiday to Jersey (by air). Is there anyone who can confirm if they will need passports please. The travel agent said yes definately but we have read on the internet that this isn't required. Also seen elsewhere that a photo id card would be ok. My parents have neither photo id or passports and it would of course but inconvenient and expensive to obtain passports. Thanks to anyone who replies.
The airline will require some sort of photo id, not necessarily a passport. Each airline has different ideas about what it will accept. For example Ryanair (who don't fly to Jersey) will ONLY accept a photo driving licence or a passport. Others are less strict. You'll need to ask your carrier.
The Jersey authorities will NOT need to see a passport - it's a security, not an immigration requirement..
I have been to Jersey & Guernsey and have not been asked for a passport but you will probably be asked for photo ID at check in.e.g. new type driving license, some airlines accept bus passes with photo ID but check with the airline because your parents will be very upset if they get turned back at check in.
Hope they enjoy their holiday, but if they want to make the day trip from Jersey to St Malo[France] then they will need a passport each.
